Safety First: Multiple Electrical Issues Resolved in Classic 1959 Pullman Washington Residence

For this 1959 Pullman, WA home, Cheetah Electric completed a series of electrical updates focused on safety, function, and convenience throughout the lower level. Our technicians worked room by room to add new receptacles, update protective devices, install lights and ceiling fans, and add whole-panel surge protection to the electrical system.

In the downstairs storage area we added a new receptacle under the shelf, and we provided GFCI protection for both outlets in the room. That gives the storage space safer, code-style protected power where it is needed for tools and chargers.

On the down deck we installed a customer-provided ceiling fan, mounted and wired to the outdoor feed. In the down garage we added a new ceiling light, and we installed a 15-amp cord with a plug to power a second light. These additions improve usable lighting in work and storage areas.

The downstairs south room received six new three-prong receptacles, all updated with AFCI and GFCI protection. Those devices help reduce the risk of electrical fires and provide ground-fault protection for outlets in that area. The east bedroom received two new three-prong plugs with the same AFCI and GFCI upgrades to match the rest of the downstairs safety improvements.

Both downstairs bathrooms got attention as well. We installed new switch and GFCI combinations for each vanity, giving protected power to the sinks while keeping the lighting control separate and convenient.

We also troubleshot the west floor plug in the living area to determine the issue, then replaced two floor outlets with new rectangular flip-lid models. These updated floor outlets are more secure and easier to use, and the flip lids help protect the contacts from debris and wear.

In the downstairs east bathroom we confirmed the shower light and the exhaust fan were properly GFCI protected. That ensures the fixtures near wet areas have the appropriate ground-fault protection in place.

The living room received a major convenience upgrade with the installation of a second customer-provided ceiling fan. We ran new wire across the ceiling and installed a dedicated switch on the north wall so the fan operates independently and looks tidy with the surface wiring concealed in the wire channel.

Back in the south room we added another receptacle near the shelves to provide a convenient place to plug in devices or a lamp without stretching cords across the room.

To top it all off, we installed deluxe whole-panel surge protection for the home. That device provides surge suppression at the service panel, helping protect electronics and appliances throughout the house from voltage spikes.

These combined electrical updates in Pullman, WA deliver improved safety, better outlet placement, and more reliable lighting and fan control. If you have an older home that needs similar work, Cheetah Electric can assess the needs and provide the right electrical upgrades for your space.

Client Review

I recently had a long list of electrical work I wanted done on my 1959 home. As the house is older and well-loved, it has had a few remodels/updates to varying degrees, so working on this house can be an adventure. Ken and Brandon were so fun to work with: they explained everything they were doing, continuously verified the work with me, and explained some of the more interesting challenges they were running in to - all of which they handled with expertise and humor. They reviewed the work they had done with me each day before leaving, and the Cheetah staff kept me informed of when they were arriving and what they were going to do (it was a 4-day job in the end). I'm very satisfied with the completed work and feel confident my home has the best of upgrades, including full-system surge protection. All the work easily passed state electrical inspection. I highly recommend Cheetah Electric.
